PETALING JAYA: Thirty areas recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 10am on Monday (Aug 25), according to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS).
In Sarawak, five areas breached the unhealthy threshold, with IPD Serian recording the highest reading in the state at 180, followed by Sri Aman (169), Kuching (164), Samarahan (157) and Sarikei (152).
Outside Sarawak, 25 areas also recorded unhealthy readings. Johan Setia in Selangor recorded the second highest reading nationwide at 175, followed by Shah Alam in Selangor (162), Putrajaya (156), Minden in Pulau Pinang (155) and Tanjung Malim in Perak (155).
Batu Muda in Kuala Lumpur (155), Kuala Selangor (155), Nilai in Negeri Sembilan (155), Bukit Rambai in Melaka (155), Seri Manjung in Perak (154) and Tasek Ipoh in Perak (153) also recorded unhealthy readings.
Klang in Selangor (153), Sungai Petani in Kedah (152), Balik Pulau in Pulau Pinang (152), Taiping in Perak (152), Banting in Selangor (152), Seremban in Negeri Sembilan (152), Segamat in Johor (152), Batu Pahat in Johor (152) and Tangkak in Johor (152) were also in the unhealthy range, along with Petaling Jaya in Selangor (151), Alor Gajah in Melaka (151), Seberang Perai in Pulau Pinang (137), Pegoh Ipoh in Perak (137) and Kota Tinggi in Johor (119).
Meanwhile, 37 areas around the country recorded API readings at the moderate level, while no areas recorded good readings.
API readings of between zero and 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are categorised as hazardous.
API data is released hourly based on readings from 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.
