PETALING JAYA: Crisis Relief Squad of MCA (CRSM) has deployed search and rescue teams to several flood-ridden areas.
Its national chief Datuk Lim Choong Ly said that lifeboats, four-wheel-drive vehicles, and other disaster relief equipment are being used for the flood relief operations.
“Simultaneously, volunteers from various states have been mobilised to visit flood-hit areas and temporary relief centres (PPS) to comfort affected residents and assess the latest situation and relief supply needs,” she said in a statement issued yesterday.
Based on the actual needs of the flood victims, CRSM is providing appropriate assistance and support to help affected families pull through these difficult times.
“CRSM Kelantan team members have already entered evacuation centres to discuss flood relief and evacuation assistance matters with the local Civil Defence Force,” she added.
Feedback from CRSM volunteers working on flood relief missions showed that there is a need for certain supplies in the affected areas.
CRSM Penang confirmed that there is an urgent need for children’s nappies and sanitary pads.
CRSM Perlis is tallying the number of families who are trapped in their homes or unwilling to evacuate, and plans to deliver essential supplies to them promptly, ensuring these families also receive timely assistance.
Lim said CRSM is actively uniting forces from all sectors of society and seeking support from more sponsors and partners to effectively provide aid to victims and assist with post-flood reconstruction.
“Currently, CRSM has already received substantial assistance from companies including Rayaco sponsoring cleaning tools, Joons Aiwibi sponsoring nappies, and NSK providing daily food items.
“CRSM has also launched a charitable fundraising drive through its GoCare public crowdfunding platform.
“Every public donation will be used directly to procure and distribute much-needed relief supplies for flood victims. Additionally, CRSM will jointly organise a charity sale with its partner Joons, with all proceeds going entirely into the flood relief fund,” Lim added.
She reminded residents in low-lying areas to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the latest flood information and warnings issued by government agencies such as Nadma and the Malaysian Meteorological Department, and make early necessary preparations – as well as to follow instructions of the relevant authorities to relocate, if they are affected by the floods.
She called on companies, organisations, and members of the public to generously contribute and lend a helping hand through the GoCare platform (gocare.org.my), working together to provide the timeliest support for flood victims.
