CRSM intensifying flood rescue and relief operations

Help at hand: The CRSM is working on the frontlines to help carry out emergency rescue and provide aid for flood-affected residents.

PETALING JAYA: With the flood situation across the country expected to worsen in the coming weeks, the Crisis Relief Squad of MCA (CRSM) is intensifying its flood rescue and relief operations nationwide.

Among the recent operations was the rescue of a disabled elderly man in Perlis who had initially refused to leave his home despite rising floodwaters.

By the time the team arrived, the water level was approaching the danger mark.

CRSM’s search and rescue team member Phoon Kai Mun personally reassured the man about the facilities and safety at the evacuation centre before carefully relocating him.

“CRSM carried the man on a stretcher and safely transferred him onto the rescue boat.

“With police assistance, he was then successfully brought to PPS Dewan 2020,” CRSM said in a statement yesterday.

CRSM search and rescue team leader Soo Wee Chuan noted that the man was among several flood victims who initially chose to wait for floodwaters to recede, putting themselves at risk of becoming trapped.

The squad has also been visiting temporary evacuation centres nationwide to provide aid, while its vanguard team enters disaster zones to ensure supplies reach victims directly.

Perlis CRSM chief Ng Sing Phing said the squad continuously adapts its support to on-ground needs.

“Delivering essential food supplies remains our top priority. Volunteers are distributing provisions to those who have stayed in their homes and to those cleaning up, ensuring all victims receive timely assistance,” she said.

Corporate support has been instrumental in CRSM’s efforts, allowing the squad to help provide urgent food supplies to the northern states hardest hit by floods.

“Disaster relief is a continuous effort requiring support from all sectors of society.

“We urge more businesses and members of the public to join our flood relief efforts,” the statement read.

Those wishing to contribute can do so via the GoCare crowdfunding platform at gocare.org.my, through CRSM’s donation hotline at 019-669 6278, or via their Facebook page, CRSM HQ MCA Crisis Relief Squad.
