IPOH: The woman who attempted to hug the Sultan of Perak during the state-level Independence Day celebration on Sunday (Aug 31) has been referred for psychiatric evaluation.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said following the expiry of the woman's remand period on Wednesday (Sept 3), she has been referred to Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta for observation.

"Investigation into the case under Section 325/511 of the Penal Code has been completed, with the investigation paper having been referred to the state Deputy Public Prosecutor's office.

"The investigation paper will then be forwarded to the Attorney-General's Chambers on Thursday (Sept 4) to get instruction for the next course of action," he said in a statement.

The woman, 41, had reportedly rushed towards Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah on stage at about 8.20am while the state anthem was being played.

Security personnel apprehended her before leading her away.

Comm Noor Hisam said further development into the case would be informed from time to time.

"The police advise the people not to make inaccurate speculation, as to not jeopardise the investigation or cause public unrest," he added.
