Woman who tried to hug Sultan Nazrin remanded for three days


IPOH: The woman who tried to hug the Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah, during the state-level Independence Day celebrations here on Sunday (Aug 31) will be remanded for three days.

When contacted, Perak police chief Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Noordin said the remand starts on Monday (Sept 1).

"The incident is still being investigated," he said in a short message reply and declined to elaborate further on the matter.

During the 8.20am incident, the 41-year-old local woman rushed towards the Sultan on stage and attempted to hug him while the state anthem was being played.

She was stopped by security personnel before being led away.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Comm Noor Hisam said the woman is found to have previous drug-related cases and is also under psychiatric supervision.
