Residensi Hektar project resumes with new contractor, fresh funding, says Nga

KUALA LUMPUR: The stalled Residensi Hektar project has been revived with new funding and will continue under a new main contractor, says Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.

“With the injection of new funds, construction began on July 30 and is expected to be completed by June 2027. The completion will be handled by the new main contractor, Bina Permai San Bhd,” he said during question time in the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday (Aug 27).

Residensi Gombak, a RumahWIP project managed by the Federal Territories Department since 2018, was not finished on schedule in 2022.

The project, left idle since 2018 due to various issues, involves 2,400 residential units and is among the largest abandoned housing projects in the country.

Nga said the ministry’s Task Force on Sick and Abandoned Private Housing Projects (TFST) intervened and revived the project with an injection of RM125mil.

The task force has rejuvenated 1,171 sick projects involving 139,844 residential units, with a Gross Development Value (GDV) of RM113.5bil.

Nga added that an announcement will be made after Budget 2026, focusing on achieving zero sick projects.

He was responding to Zahir Hassan (PH–Wangsa Maju), who asked about the project’s progress and the continued lack of completion.

In a supplementary question, Zahir noted that while there was significant progress on July 30, work slowed considerably the next day.

Nga replied that site cleaning took place on July 30, while construction will ramp up on September 1.

He said the Certificate of Completion and Compliance (CCC) is expected by February 27, 2027, with units to be handed over to buyers by May 31, 2027.
