Major roads in Ipoh to close for National Day parade on Aug 31

IPOH: Several major roads in the city will be closed and traffic diverted in conjunction with the state-level National Day parade on Sunday (Aug 31).

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the parade would be held in front of the Ipoh Town Hall along Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab, and road closures would begin at 6.30am.

“To ensure the smooth running of the programme, full road closures and diversions will be implemented.

“Motorists are advised to plan their journey and use alternative routes to avoid congestion,” he said in a statement Tuesday (Aug 26).

He said among the main locations involved are Ipoh Padang, Jalan Sultan Idris Shah, Jalan Sultan Iskandar Shah, Jalan Tun Sambanthan (Little India), Jalan Tan Sri Tajudin Ali, Bulatan Bahagia (Medan Kidd), Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab and Jalan SP Seenivasagam.

He said closures and diversions would also take place during parade rehearsals on Wednesday (Aug 27) and Friday (Aug 29) as well as on the celebration day itself.

In addition, rehearsals for the Main Guard of Honour parade will also see road closures in front of the Town Hall on Aug 28 (Thursday) and Aug 30 (Saturday) from 8am until completion.
