Dewan Rakyat Speaker to get Home Ministry to explain attack on Rafizi's son

KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul says he will contact the Home Ministry for an explanation regarding recent news of an attack on an MP’s son.

The MP in question is former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli (PH-Pandan), whose 12-year-old son has reportedly been attacked and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital, earlier on Wednesday (Aug 13).

Johari said that while he was currently unaware of what occurred, he would do his utmost to ensure the safety of all MPs.

“I will contact the Home Ministry to get an explanation of what happened as soon as possible, especially since this may involve the safety of all of us.

“If I feel there is a need for further clarification on what occurred, I will ask for the minister to come to Parliament to explain this unprecedented incident,” he said during debates of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) on Wednesday.

Johari’s decision comes after Wong Chen (PH-Subang) interrupted 13MP debates to inform the Dewan Rakyat of the reported attack on Rafizi’s son, asking if Johari could get relevant ministries to give an explanation on the sudden news to the Dewan Rakyat during the next session on Thursday (Aug 14).
