KUCHING: Sarawak welcomes plans to improve road infrastructure under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), including border roads and highways.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said this would complement ongoing projects such as Phases I and II of the Sabah-Sarawak Link Road (SSLR) and the Pan Borneo Highway.

"There is also a proposed border road which is in the planning stages," he told reporters after launching the Kuching City Day celebration here on Friday (Aug 1).

Uggah thanked the Federal Government for announcing the road projects under the 13MP.

"The state Public Works Department is ready to implement all the projects approved by the Federal Government for Sarawak," he added.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had said about 2,800km of rural roads would be built and upgraded under the 13MP, including the main road from Nanga Serau to Nanga Seranau in Kapit, Sarawak.

He also announced upgrades to existing roads and the construction of new roads to ensure smoother access, with the Trans Borneo Highway in Sarawak being a key focus project.

In addition, he said border road networks connecting Sabah and Sarawak to Kalimantan, Indonesia, would be upgraded to enhance cross-border connectivity.
