JOHOR BARU: A 29-year-old dental nurse working in Singapore has been left living in fear after her ex-boyfriend physically abused her, made death threats, and shared her non-consensual intimate images with her family and online followers.
The victim, known only as Nini, recounted her ordeal on Wednesday (Aug 5) during a press conference organised by public complaints group Team TLK’s Johor bureau.
Nini said she met the suspect while completing an internship at a private drug rehabilitation centre where he worked as a team leader. The two began dating a month later, and he subsequently rented a room in her Larkin apartment.
“I didn't suspect he had an aggressive personality, but his behaviour changed gradually after we started dating,” Nini said.
Her nightmare escalated in May when female housemates reported missing belongings, including underwear. When Nini confronted him, the argument turned violent.
“He got physical with me, slapping and punching me,” she recalled.
Suspecting substance abuse, Nini contacted the man's mother. During a joint confrontation at the apartment, he confessed to using drugs.
When Nini attempted to end the relationship, both the suspect and his mother objected. He then threatened to leak her private photos and videos if she left. Though she initially yielded out of fear, the violence worsened.
“He slapped, punched, choked, and shoved me on separate occasions, leaving me physically injured and emotionally traumatised,” she said.
The situation reached a breaking point in July when, following another dispute, the man issued death threats and distributed her compromising photos and videos to her parents, relatives, and social media platforms.
The leak severely strained her family relationships, while the harassment expanded to her workplace, targeting her manager. Driven by her manager’s encouragement and ongoing harassment as recently as Tuesday (Aug 4), Nini decided to speak out.
Team TLK Johor bureau chief Lim Thow Siang confirmed that Nini has lodged two police reports and urged authorities to take swift, decisive action.
When contacted, a police official confirmed they are investigating the reports.
