BN to hold briefing on declassified Tabung Haji RCI report

PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional will hold a special briefing next Monday (Aug 10) on the declassified Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH).

According to a letter sighted by The Star on Wednesday (Aug 5), the briefing will come ahead of the special Dewan Rakyat sitting to debate the report, which was declassified and made public last week.

Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is expected to chair the meeting, which will take place at 5pm next Monday at Dewan Tun Dr Ismail, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.

The invitation letter, signed by Barisan executive secretary Datuk Mohamad Sahfri Ab Aziz, was also extended to Barisan deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and other component party leaders, including MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong, MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran and other leaders, senators and MPs.

On July 31, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said a special parliamentary sitting to debate the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) will be held on Aug 11.

The special sitting follows a Cabinet decision to declassify the report and allow enforcement agencies to conduct further investigations based on its findings.

The RCI report recommended a forensic audit into past investment decisions that led to a severe deterioration in TH’s asset value.

The report, which investigated TH's management and operations between 2014 and 2020, identified several problematic investments that warrant forensic examination.

The commission also found evidence of suspicious transactions and the concealment of information.

Meanwhile, a special task force has been set up to review and examine the findings of the RCI report on TH’s possible offences, including corruption, criminal breach of trust, document forgery, abuse of power and money laundering.
