KUALA LUMPUR: Nine police reports have been lodged over alleged commercial crimes, including cases highlighted in the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on Tabung Haji.
Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Comm Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the reports were lodged by various parties, including Lembaga Tabung Haji and members of the public.
"So far we have opened five investigation papers following the reports.
"The investigations are being conducted under the Penal Code, the Tabung Haji Act 1995, the Companies Act 1965 and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLA)," he said in a statement on Wednesday (Aug 5).
In efforts to complete the investigations, Comm Rusdi said the police are recording statements from witnesses both within and outside the country, while also obtaining relevant documents to assist in the probe.
"We remain committed to ensuring that all investigations are carried out independently, transparently, professionally and in accordance with the law.
He added that appropriate legal action would be taken against any individual found to have committed criminal offences.
He also urged the public to refrain from speculating or spreading unverified information regarding the ongoing investigations.
"Any statement or dissemination of information that is not based on facts may mislead the public and has the potential to jeopardise the investigation process.
"The public is advised to obtain information only through official channels," he said.
