KOTA KINABALU: PETRONAS reaffirms its support for the Sabah’s oil and gas workforce development with the launch of two digital platforms in collaboration with the state government.
These PETRONAS-funded platforms - Permohonan Online Pekerjaan dan Latihan Dalam Industri Minyak dan Gas (POMIGAS) and the Sabah Work Pass Online System - were launched on Tuesday (Aug 4).
According to PETRONAS, POMIGAS is a centralised online platform integrated with the Sabah Jobs Portal ecosystem, designed to provide Sabahans, particularly youth, graduates, and job seekers with access to job matching and training opportunities in the oil and gas sector.
The platform also supports workforce readiness by connecting local talent with industry needs and strengthening Sabah’s oil and gas workforce pipeline, it said.
It said the Sabah Work Pass Online System is a digital platform that streamlines the submission and management of work pass applications in Sabah.
This enables employers to submit documents, monitor application status, and facilitate the processing of work passes in coordination with the relevant immigration and labour authorities, it stated.
PETRONAS Sabah and Labuan general manager Datuk Siti Ayu Abdul Wahab said PETRONAS remains focused on unlocking the potential of Sabah’s local talent.
“This is by supporting initiatives that enhance workforce capabilities, improve access to industry opportunities, and contribute towards building a skilled and future-ready oil and gas workforce,” she said.
Secretary of State, Home Affairs and Research (Sabah Chief Minister’s Department), Datuk Awang Shahminan Awang Sahari, who launched the two systems, said this reflects Sabah and PETRONAS’ collaborative efforts in strengthening Sabah’s oil and gas workforce ecosystem.
“It is by creating greater access and participation in industry opportunities, supporting the development of local talent, and ensuring a more coordinated approach in connecting Sabahans with industry needs,” he said.
Both projects are managed by the Home Affairs and Research Office of the Chief Minister’s Department.
Also present was Senior General Manager, Human Resource for Upstream & Malaysia Petroleum Management, PETRONAS, Maria Teo.
POMIGAS commenced operations earlier this year, while the Sabah Work Pass Online System will become operational on Sept 1, 2026.
