Perhilitan captures sun bear in Dungun village

DUNGUN: The Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) has successfully captured a sun bear that had been roaming around Kampung Padang Ping here since last week.

Terengganu Perhilitan director Loo Kean Seong said the adult male bear, weighing about 110 kilogrammes, was caught in a trap set up on Friday (July 25) morning.

He said the bear was unharmed and was released back into its natural habitat later in the afternoon.

"We received complaints from villagers about the bear’s presence in the village and nearby oil palm plantations, which caused public concern.

"Following the report, we installed a trap and managed to catch the animal yesterday,” he said.

Loo advised the public not to act on their own if they encounter wild animals but to contact Perhilitan immediately for further action. - Bernama
