Sabah launches Borneo.TV streaming platform

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor performs the launching gimmick of Borneo.TV in Kota KInabalu on Tuesday (July 1).

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah continues to advance in the digital broadcasting world with the launch of Borneo.TV, a new streaming platform that showcases the people, voices, and culture of the state to the international stage.

With the slogan "Sabah in the Eyes of the World", the platform is set to become a key channel for delivering authentic content, original documentaries, cultural arts, and Sabah’s natural beauty through a modern, flexible, and global digital approach.

“This is not merely the launch of a digital media platform, but a stage for Sabahan talents to create and shape the state’s identity through their own narratives,” said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor when launching the Borneo.TV, here, on Tuesday (July 1).

Hajiji said the launch of Borneo.TV is a timely move in the era of Over-The-Top (OTT) streaming media, which no longer relies on conventional broadcasting channels, while providing local content creators with opportunities to penetrate wider markets.

“Today’s lifestyle changes, from communication to entertainment, are all digitally driven. Borneo.TV is the right response to this shift and presents an opportunity for us to showcase our own content,” he said.

According to him, the state government fully supports the implementation of Borneo.TV as it is not just a broadcasting platform, but a strategic medium to share the real stories of the people of Sabah with the world.

“Today’s broadcasting world demands creativity, courage, and sensitivity to audience needs. I want Borneo.TV to be a space that challenges norms, promotes new ideas, and introduces the true face of Sabah,” he said.

Hajiji also stressed that Borneo.TV personnel should view their work not merely as technical routines, but as a form of creative art that shapes the state’s image, adding that content produced must carry values, identity, and meaningful narratives.

He also called on artists, digital influencers, and players in the local creative industry to make full use of Borneo.TV as a platform to showcase original works and authentically represent Sabah communities in an inclusive and authoritative manner.

The ceremony also witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the State Government, represented by the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) Secretariat, and IB Media Consultant Work Sdn Bhd, the company operating Borneo.TV, which runs without any government funding.

“This implementation model demonstrates the private sector’s commitment and confidence in the potential of digital broadcasting in Sabah. I am confident this approach will position Borneo.TV as a competitive and sustainable platform,” he added.

Hajiji expressed his appreciation to the SMJ Secretariat and IB Media for successfully realising the launch of Borneo.TV under the Sabah Maju Jaya Roadmap 1.0, which prioritises the development of the creative economy sector as one of the state’s main growth drivers.

“I urge everyone, including the government, private sector, and public, to support this effort and use this platform to create, share, and deliver Sabah’s narratives the way we ourselves want the world to see them,” he said.
