SEREMBAN: MCA’s two victories at the Negri Sembilan polls were not through the easy route as both took on political heavyweights - a federal minister and a state executive councillor, says party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
Dr Wee said Chennah candidate John Siow Kong Chun’s opponent was no other than Transport Minister and DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.
According to unofficial results, MCA's Siow defeated Loke after polling 5,593 votes to Loke's 5,060, giving the Barisan candidate a 533-vote majority.
“As he is also a youth, he will surely bring both Chennah and the younger generation’s voice to the state assembly in order to uplift the people and the constituency,” he said during a press conference on Saturday (Aug 1).
On Repah candidate Koh Kim Swee’s win, he said it was also not an easy battle as he took on Pakatan incumbent S. Veerapan.
Koh managed to garner 10,148 votes against his opponent’s 9,148 according to unofficial results.
“The incumbent had served there for multiple terms and yet we managed to win back the seat through our efforts and service to the community.
“It is now my hope that he will continue serving the people well,” he said.
During the same press conference, Dr Wee, along with other party leaders, bowed as a sign of gratitude to voters.
“Thank you for your precious support,” he said.
