SEREMBAN: The victory of Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the Negri Sembilan state election is a huge mandate for both coalitions to further strengthen the state administration, says Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias.
The Negri Sembilan UMNO liaison chairman said the trust placed by the state's multiracial voters in the two coalitions was a significant responsibility that must be shouldered by all elected representatives.
"This huge mandate and responsibility have been entrusted to BN and PN to further strengthen the administration of Negeri Sembilan, God willing.
"Therefore, all BN and PN representatives must maximise their service without compromise in fulfilling the manifesto promises made to the people," he told reporters after the announcement of the unofficial Negri Sembilan state election results at Wisma Umno Negri Sembilan here Saturday (Aug 1) night.
Jalaluddin, who retained the Pertang state seat, said the more than two-thirds majority obtained by BN and PN also showed that the people of Negri Sembilan had rejected politics of hatred and racial issues, opting instead for stability and prosperity in the state.
Meanwhile, on the formation of the new state government, Jalaluddin said party leaders would first hold discussions to finalise the Mentri Besar candidate before submitting the name to the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan and the state's four Undang for the swearing-in ceremony. - Bernama
