MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for eight states, KL and Putrajaya


KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds are expected across various regions in Malaysia, with warnings in effect until 9pm on Monday (May 5), said the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) in a post on Facebook.

In Kelantan, the districts of Kuala Krai and Gua Musang are on alert.

All of Terengganu is expected to experience severe weather.

Pahang areas including Bentong and Kuantan are included in the warning.

In Selangor, regions such as Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat, and Sepang are forecasted to be affected, along with Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.

In Negeri Sembilan, districts including Jelebu, Jempol, and Tampin are under the warning.

In Johor, the regions of Segamat, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, and Johor Bahru are expected to face adverse conditions.

In Sarawak, areas such as Kuching, Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Sibu (Selangau), Bintulu (Tatau), and Limbang are on alert.

In Sabah, the Interior (Sipitang, Nabawan, and Tambunan), West Coast (Papar, Penampang, and Ranau), and Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran, and Sandakan) are expected to experience severe weather.

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
