Thunderstorm warning issued for 10 states until 6pm


KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm, heavy rain and strong winds warning for 10 states until 6pm on Sunday (Aug 2).

In a statement, MetMalaysia said the affected areas are Perlis; Kedah involving Padang Terap, Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu; and Perak covering Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar, Batang Padang and Muallim

The warning also covers Kelantan (Pasir Mas, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Machang, Pasir Puteh, Kuala Krai and Gua Musang), the whole of Terengganu, and several areas in Pahang, namely Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut, Bentong, Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin.

In Selangor, only Hulu Selangor is affected, while in Johor, the areas involved are Batu Pahat, Kluang, Mersing, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru.

For Sarawak, the affected areas include Kuching (Bau and Kuching), Betong (Saratok and Kabong), Sarikei, Sibu (Sibu and Selangau), Mukah, Bintulu, Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi), and Limbang.

In Sabah, the affected areas are the Interior (Sipitang, Tenom, Kuala Penyu, Beaufort and Tambunan), West Coast, Sandakan (Beluran), and Kudat. - Bernama
