Alan Lai vows to keep serving Nilai after poll defeat

NILAI: Barisan Nasional’s Nilai candidate Alan Lai has vowed to keep serving residents and press on with his five campaign promises, a day after losing the state seat.

Lai said that although the election was over, many residents had come forward during his walkabout in Nilai to urge him not to give up and to tell him they still backed him.

“Genuine public service does not begin or end with an election,” he said.

“Serving the people is a long-term commitment, and my dedication to Nilai remains as strong as ever.”

He said the five promises he made during the campaign were never just election pledges, but his plan for a better Nilai with stronger development and more economic opportunities.

He would keep working to deliver them.

“While the election may be over, these promises remain unchanged,” he said.

Lai confirmed that Suara Nilai, the community platform launched during the campaign, would carry on as a permanent channel through the website SuaraNilai.my.

It would keep collecting residents’ feedback and complaints while sharing local news, events and job openings.

“My hope is that it will grow into a platform that truly belongs to the people of Nilai,” he said.

The Alan Lai Team would also stay on, he said, taking up everyday issues such as cleanliness, street lighting and road repairs, and working with the authorities to get them resolved.

“The greatest reward has not been the election result itself, but the chance to meet so many residents who care about Nilai’s future,” he said.

Lai thanked the voters, his campaign team, volunteers, family and friends who had stood by him.

“Regardless of the role I hold in future, my commitment to Nilai will never change,” he said. “I will keep walking with you to build a better Nilai, together.”

Lai lost Nilai to incumbent J. Arul Kumar of Pakatan Harapan in the Negri Sembilan election. Arul Kumar retained the seat with a 5,937-vote majority, polling 15,797 votes to Lai’s 9,860.
