Melaka polls: Barisan, partners to share stage for candidate unveiling, says Zahid

MELAKA: Barisan Nasional and its political partners will share the same stage to unveil their candidates for all 28 seats in the Melaka polls on Saturday (Oct 24).

Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the coordinated announcement would take place at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh, here.

“We will announce our candidates on the same day, at the same time and at the same venue.

“Barisan will name its candidates for 21 state seats, while our political partners will announce theirs for the remaining seven,” he said after meeting Barisan leaders at MITC on Thursday (Oct 22) night.

MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong was among the leaders present.

Ahmad Zahid said seat allocations among Barisan’s component parties had been finalised after considering their views and the candidates’ chances of winning in the respective constituencies.

“The leadership heard the component parties’ views on the seats they were confident of winning before deciding on the allocations,” he said.

He added that Barisan’s strategic partners were holding their own meeting tonight (Oct 22) to finalise their candidates.

“We hope for a favourable outcome and that all candidate lists will be finalised,” he said.

On Wednesday (Oct 21), Ahmad Zahid confirmed that negotiations with PAS had concluded, with Barisan contesting 21 seats and PAS and its allies taking the remaining seven in next month’s state election.
