Melaka polls: BN shifts candidate reveal date as pact talks continue

MELAKA: Barisan Nasional has moved the date of its candidate announcement for the Melaka polls from Oct 28 as talks with potential political partners continue.

State Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh confirmed the change but stopped short of announcing a new date.

"I will announce that soon," he told reporters after launching the Hang Tuah Jaya Barisan election machinery in Ayer Keroh here on Tuesday (Oct 20).

Also present were state Barisan deputy chairman and Tangga Batu Umno division chief Datuk Rais Yasin, Hang Tuah Jaya Umno division chief Datuk Mohd Ridhwan Mohd Ali and his deputy Datuk Rahmad Mariman.

Ab Rauf, who is also the caretaker Chief Minister, said the announcement would take into account developments in negotiations with Barisan’s strategic political partners.

Meanwhile, a Barisan insider said the unveiling had been brought forward to Oct 24 at 8.30pm at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh.

However, Ab Rauf has yet to officially confirm the date cited by the source.

When launching the coalition's Tangga Batu election machinery in Sungai Udang last week, Ab Rauf announced Oct 28 as the date for unveiling the coalition’s candidates.
