AKPS chief thanks public for support after court appearance over KLIA incident

SEPANG: Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency director-general Commissioner Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain has thanked members of the public for their prayers and messages of support following an incident involving two policemen at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1.

Speaking to reporters outside the Sepang court complex on Wednesday (Oct 21), he said the support had given him the strength and confidence to go through the process.

"I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to everyone from all walks of life who has supported me through prayers and text messages. That has given me the strength and confidence to continue with this process," he said.

Mohd Shuhaily said he would leave the matter to the authorities and that his lawyers would speak on his behalf.

"This will be my final statement on this matter. Once the proceedings are over, my lawyers will speak on my behalf," he said.

The incident came to public attention after a video showing a confrontation between Mohd Shuhaily and two policemen at the airport went viral on social media.

The two policemen subsequently lodged police reports alleging that they had been assaulted.

On Oct 17, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the Attorney General's Chambers had returned the investigation papers to the police for further action.

He said the Attorney General's Chambers had requested improvements to the investigation papers before deciding on the next course of action.

Attorney General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar had earlier confirmed that the case involved allegations of voluntarily causing hurt to the two policemen under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
