MetMalaysia issues thunderstorm warning for 11 states, two FTs this evening


Petaling Jaya: Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected in several parts of Malaysia, until 6pm on Thursday (May 1), says the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

In an advisory post on its Facebook page, MetMalaysia said that 11 states, as well as the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, would be affected.

In Kedah, the affected districts are Kuala Muda, Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu; in Penang, the affected districts are North Seberang Perai, Central Seberang Perai and South Seberang Perai and Perak, the affected districts are Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar and Batang Padang.

Also affected are areas in Kelantan (Kota Bharu, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh and Kuala Krai), Terengganu (Besut, Setiu and Kuala Nerus), Pahang (Cameron Highlands, Lipis, Raub, Jerantut and Kuantan), Selangor (Klang, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang, Negri Sembilan and Johor (Segamat, Kluang, Mersing, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru).

In Sarawak, the affected districts are Kuching (Kuching), Serian, Sri Aman, Sarikei (Julau), Sibu (Kanowit), Kapit (Song), Miri (Telang Usan) and Limbang, while in Sabah, the affected areas are the Interior (Sipitang, Tenom, Beaufort and Nabawan) and Kudat (Kota Marudu).

This warning was issued when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from the time of issuance.
