Constructive criticism of Tabung Haji must be followed by responsible action, says DPM Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: Every constructive criticism of Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) should be followed by responsible action, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Deputy Prime Minister said this was to ensure that the major Islamic institution remained strong and trusted, without being embroiled in prolonged controversy.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said an avenue had been provided for MPs to debate, clarify and address all issues as thoroughly as possible during today’s special Dewan Rakyat sitting on the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on TH.

"Hopefully, after this, no one will choose to make excessive allegations or create perceptions without being based on the truth,” he said in a Facebook post on Tuesday (Aug 11) night.

He also prayed that all parties would be blessed with wisdom and sincerity in addressing the issue in the interests of the ‘ummah’ and the country.

The special Dewan Rakyat sitting was held following the government’s decision to make the RCI report on TH public on July 29, allowing MPs to examine and debate its findings and recommendations.

The report revealed various weaknesses in TH’s management and operations between 2014 and 2020 and made 25 recommendations for improvement, 75 per cent of which had been implemented by TH as of July 30.- Bernama
