Thunderstorm warning issued for 11 states, KL and Putrajaya


KUALA LUMPUR: Thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds are expected across various regions in Malaysia, with warnings in effect until 3am on Sunday (May 4), said the Malaysian Meteorological Department in a post on its FaceBook page.

In Perlis, the entire state is on alert.

Kedah areas such as Langkawi, Kulim, and Bandar Baharu are expected to be affected.

Pulau Pinang is also under the warning.

In Perak, districts including Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk, and Hilir Perak are forecasted to experience severe weather.

Kelantan's Gua Musang is on alert.

In Terengganu, regions such as Hulu Terengganu, Dungun, and Kemaman are expected to face adverse conditions.

Pahang areas including Tanah Tinggi Cameron, Lipis, Jerantut, Bentong, Maran, Kuantan, and Pekan are included in the warning.

Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya are also expected to experience severe weather.

The warning extends to Negeri Sembilan and Melaka.

In Johor, regions such as Tangkak, Segamat, Muar, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Pontian, Kulai, and Johor Bahru are on alert.

In Sarawak, areas including Kuching (Kuching), Serian, Samarahan, Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah (Tanjung Manis and Mukah), Kapit (Song and Kapit), and Bintulu are under the warning.

In Sabah, Sandakan (Sandakan) is expected to experience adverse weather conditions.

MetMalaysia issues this warning when thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour are imminent or expected to persist for more than an hour.

These are short-term warnings, valid for no more than six hours from issuance.
