Man feared taken by crocodile while fishing in Kinabatangan


KOTA KINABALU: A crocodile attack is believed to be behind the disappearance of a 30-year-old foreign man while fishing in a river near Ladang Sepagaya, Kampung Suan Lamba in Kinabatangan.

The victim was last seen at about noon on Thursday (May 1) while using a casting net at the river.

He did not return home, and searchers found only his slippers and fishing equipment near the site.

Fire and Rescue Department received a call from the Kinabatangan police at 4.10pm on Friday and immediately mobilised a team of four personnel from the Kinabatangan fire station.

“The team is currently on its way to the location to gather more information and launch a search and rescue (SAR) operation,” said operations commander PBK I Jasmani Osni in a preliminary report.

The victim, whose identity has yet to be confirmed, has not been found at press time.

The incident site is about 35km from the Kinabatangan fire station.

The SAR operation involves the Fire and Rescue Department and police, with updates to be provided as the search continues.
