Fahmi Reza remanded for one day over controversial artwork


KOTA KINABALU: Artist Fahmi Reza has been remanded for one day over the investigation into a caricature of his.

Penampang OCPD Supt Sammy Newton said the remand order was issued by the Magistrate's Court on Tuesday (Dec 31).

"He will be investigated under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, Section 504 of the Penal Code (intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace) and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (improper use of network facilities or services)," he said.

Magistrate Wan Farah Farriza Wan Ghazali granted a one-day remand for Fahmi after the prosecutor applied for a four-day period.

Sabah Police Chief Comm Datuk Jauteh Dikun said Fahmi was arrested after he went to the Penampang police station at about 5.30pm on Monday (Dec 30).

This was after some 30 police reports were lodged against the artist for sedition, among others.

The artist said on X that he was on his way to the station but planned to exercise his right not to answer any questions under Section 112 of the Criminal Procedure Code, saying that his statement could be used to incriminate him.
