GISB case: Three ministers to table findings in Parliament

PENGERANG: Three ministers will table their findings on the Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB) issue in the upcoming Parliament session, says Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said.

The Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) said the findings would be tabled on the second day of the Parliament meeting on Tuesday (Oct 15).

"Three ministers will be tabling their papers on GISB. They are Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Naim Mokhtar, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri," she said after officiating the legal literacy carnival at Dewan Kejora in Bandar Penawar here on Friday (Oct 11).

She said that the ministers would be tabling issues relating to their respective ministries' portfolios such as Islamic beliefs (aqidah), legal violations and the welfare of GISB children.

"The tabling will start at 11am on Tuesday and I want all Malaysians to listen to it as it can provide more clarity over the whole GISB situation.

"The government feels that the people need to know the reasons why action was taken against GISB – some even say that the government overreacted.

"The ministers will provide answers on what the government has done and what it is doing," she said, adding that a debate session would follow after the tabling.

"I do hope that all MPs will give their thoughts, views and suggestions on the matter," she said.

She also said that the debate session would determine if a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) on GISB is needed or if any laws need to be beefed up to protect children, for example.
