KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 625 victims have been rescued throughout the operation and investigation on Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISB).
Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said those rescued were aged between two and 28 during the operation codenamed Ops Global.
"553 victims have been placed in 13 shelter homes under the Welfare Department.
"72 others have been handed over to their respective families," he told a press conference at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) on Thursday (Oct 10).
Asked about GISB members seeking custody of their children, Comm Mohd Shuhaily said the Welfare Department has strict standard operating procedures (SOP) in dealing with such matters.
"They will not allow people to take custody (of the children) without strict evaluation," he said.
On efforts of lawyers representing GISB seeking the right to regain custody of the children, Comm Mohd Shuhaily said it was their right to do so.
"We also have the right to do our work.
"Thus, let the due process of the law proceed," he said.
