A SIAMESE wedding ceremony in Kelantan turned into a symbol of unity when a hundred villagers came together to prepare traditional dishes for the celebration, Utusan Malaysia reported.

The groom’s mother, Mek Sewin Chaw, also known as Maksu Ani, said such cooperation among village residents was a long-standing tradition whenever a feast was held.

She said preparations for the wedding, including slaughtering cows, cooking rice and preparing gulai kawah, were handled by villagers.

About 5,000 guests of various races were invited to the wedding celebration, with Malays making up the majority.

“Guests do not need to worry about attending a feast at my house even though I am of Siamese descent and my neighbours are Malays,” she said.

Despite their different religious beliefs, she said her family had adopted the Malay way of life.

> A popular radio announcer and comedian, Johan, deleted all his social media accounts 10 years ago to focus on cherished moments with his family, Berita Harian reported.

Johan, whose real name is Mohd Yazid Lim Mohamad Aziz, said his life had become more meaningful since he left social media.

“When I take my kids to Jungle Gym, I play with them instead of staring at my phone. If the news you write comes up on Google, I read it. If not, I won’t know about it,” he said during the Celebrity Showdown press conference.

Johan said he had no problem keeping up with current affairs given his job as a DJ, as his colleagues at the radio station kept him updated.

“I really hope others can also put their families’ happiness first. That’s what’s important. Because everything starts at home. Doing good also begins at home,” he said.

Johan quipped that his wife was the only one in the family with an online social life.
