KOTA BARU: The Education Ministry plans to provide at least one full-sized school field in each zone to address shortages in sports facilities, especially in urban and densely populated areas.
Education director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Azam Ahmad said this approach would enable schools to share sports facilities optimally, without requiring every school to have its own field, particularly where land is limited.
He added that having a dedicated school field is increasingly challenging in urban and densely populated school areas due to space constraints from new construction.
“One strategy we are looking at is to ensure there is one field in every zone, to be shared by surrounding schools.
“A complete field that can serve as a sports complex,” he told reporters after a bus handover ceremony at SMK Agama Naim Lilbanat here yesterday.
He said the ministry is also considering providing open halls at schools without fields for sports, games and co-curricular activities.
He added that this is part of the ministry’s efforts to ensure school facilities continue to meet students’ needs and support a more comfortable learning environment, Bernama reported.
Meanwhile, Mohd Azam said facilities such as fields and transport at other educational institutions, including vocational colleges, could also be shared with nearby schools.
