A MAN in Seremban, Negri Sembilan, has shown that love does not always require grand gestures, but can be found in the simple act of standing by each other through life’s most difficult times, Sin Chew Daily reported.
For 13 years, Hong Guo Hua has been taking his wife, Lin Xiu Feng, 68, to a dialysis centre three times a week without fail on his trusty motorcycle.
The motorcycle, which is fitted with a roofed sidecar, recently caught the attention of Negri Sembilan Chinese Maternity Association (NSCMA) chairman Datuk Hon Choon Kim, who struck up a conversation with the couple and learnt that Lin was diagnosed with kidney disease in 2013.
Since 2013, Hong had faithfully taken his wife to the dialysis centre every Monday, Wednesday and Friday for treatment.
However, he faced a new challenge in 2023 when Lin had to have a leg amputated.
Despite the difficulty of getting her onto his motorcycle, Hong did not let this stop him from taking her for dialysis treatment.
Instead, he built a sidecar that could be attached to his motorcycle.
“I did not want her to give up hope, so I thought of a way to modify the motorcycle,” Hong said, adding that he also installed a roof to protect her from the elements.
Meanwhile, Hon, a former deputy education minister, said that although Lin’s treatment was subsidised by the Health Ministry, the couple still had to pay about RM280 a month for other medical expenses.
To further assist the couple, Hon announced that the NSCMA would sponsor the RM280 to ease their financial burden.
He added that their story was a testament to what love and family support could achieve.
