Foreign press have hailed Lau as one of the most popular actors in Hong Kong in a career spanning almost four decades, with over 160 movies and TV shows to his name.
His works include the critically acclaimed As Tears Go By directed by Wong Kar Wai, Infernal Affairs and A Simple Life.
In line with his inaugural visit to TIFF, Lau will be a guest on the festival’s “In Conversation with” series on Sept 16, which features stars from across the world.
> Fixed social circles, anti-social behaviour and being nerdy are some of the reasons that 239 million individuals in China are still single, say experts.
Oriental Daily reported that netizens, however, disagreed with the findings and said they could not find a partner simply because they were financially strapped.
According to the 2022 China Statistical Yearbook, there are about 239 million people who are single and over the age of 15 as of 2021.
The age of marriage and childbearing among Chinese youth is also generally delayed.
Statistics show that the average age of first marriage is 28.67 years old, an increase of 3.78 years from the year before.
It is also found that young people are reluctant to marry or fall in love because they are not good at expressing themselves or spend their spare time only surfing the Internet.
