Cops looking for suspect who slashed man in Nibong Tebal robbery


NIBONG TEBAL: Police are tracking down a suspect who attacked a man with a machete during an armed robbery at a convenience store in Taman Bistari here on Sunday (May 31).

Deputy South Seberang Prai OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Norazmi Abd Ghapar said the 27-year-old victim sustained injuries to his head and both arms during the 9.29pm robbery.

The suspect escaped with cash, several boxes of cigarettes and a sling bag, all amounting to an estimated RM500.

"We have obtained CCTV footage and are conducting analysis, including identifying the suspect's vehicle, which is believed to have foreign registration plates," he said in a statement on Tuesday (June 2) night.

The victim, who was initially treated at Hospital Sungai Bakap, is currently in stable condition at Sunway Medical Centre Penang, he added.

According to DSP Norazmi, forensic examination was conducted at the scene of the to gather evidence to facilitate investigations under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt in the commission of a robbery.

He said investigations began as soon as a report was lodged, and did not depend on a video clip that went viral on social media on Tuesday.
