KUALA LUMPUR: Amanah accepts Pakatan Harapan’s decision to allocate it five seats in the Melaka state election, down from the nine it contested in 2021, says party strategy director Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad.
He said the seat allocation was reached through discussions among Pakatan component parties and Amanah would abide by the coalition leadership’s decision.
“What is essential in any election is that Amanah, as part of Pakatan Harapan since its formation in 2015, has always acted, coordinated and campaigned as a coalition.
“Therefore, the decisions taken are those that have been thoroughly discussed and negotiated.
“Whatever is decided by the top leadership of Pakatan Harapan, all our partners in Pakatan Harapan will abide by it,” the Health Minister told reporters after launching the national-level 2026 World Mental Health Day celebration on Sunday (Oct 25).
Dzulkefly said Amanah hoped to win all five seats it was contesting, adding that the number of seats allocated mattered little if the party failed to win them.
“So what we have been given is sufficient, and we will do our best to support one another and ensure victory for all our Pakatan allies who are contesting,” the Health Minister said.
In the 2021 Melaka election, Amanah contested nine seats but won only Bukit Katil through former chief minister Adly Zahari.
This time, Amanah will field Adly again in Bukit Katil, Datuk Ashraf Mukhlis Minghat in Durian Tunggal, Muhammad Mukhlisul Mubin Julasapiyah in Kuala Linggi, Capt (R) Mohamad Jaafar in Telok Mas and Rahayu Hamzah in Merlimau.
Pakatan chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced on Saturday that PKR would contest nine seats, DAP seven and Amanah five.
