KUALA LUMPUR: After being obscured by haze for weeks, Kuala Lumpur's clearer skies have sparked relief and excitement among netizens.
A check on the social media platform Threads found users expressing relief and excitement over the improved sky conditions on Sunday (Oct 25), with some noticing the change as soon as they looked outside their homes.
One Threads user, @tkletchumy, shared how her young child noticed that the haze was clearing before she saw the marked improvement in the Kuala Lumpur skyline from her home balcony.
"My little one said today, ‘Mum, there's no haze!’ I replied sarcastically, ‘Yeah right.’ He insisted. ‘Mum, look outside!’ I walked out to the balcony and was met with the clearest KL sky I've seen for a while. What miracle is this?” the user wrote.
Another Threads user, @wawerlah, expressed gratitude at being able to see Genting Highlands clearly again after a long time.
"Alhamdulillah. The view this morning is so clear and you can even see Genting Highlands. It's been a long time since we've seen it like this,” the user wrote.
Meanwhile, Threads user @zevtam claimed that Kuala Lumpur's air quality this morning was better than that of New Zealand.
"Do you know that the air quality in KL this morning was much better than in New Zealand? Seriously,” the post read.
The excitement was shared by another user, @kinsyahir, who said the clearer skies meant people could finally resume outdoor activities after the haze had reduced visibility.
"Finally, we can do outdoor activities again after living with the haze for more than three months,” the user wrote.
According to the Environment Department's Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, two monitoring stations in Kuala Lumpur recorded moderate air quality as of 7pm on Sunday, with Batu Muda recording an Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 84 and Cheras 66.
API readings of zero to 50 indicate good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are hazardous. – Bernama
