Bersama confirms Johor polls debut, will identify seats today

KUALA LUMPUR: Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) will contest the upcoming 16th Johor election.

Former ministers and MPs Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad confirmed this in a joint statement on Wednesday (June 3).

The Bersama leaders said the party will now identify the seats it will contest in a discussion with its state representatives.

"That discussion is scheduled to take place today (Wednesday).

"The decision was finalised following a series of talks involving Bersama leaders and selected members from across the country," the statement read.

It said the Johor state election would be an opportunity for Bersama to introduce itself to Johor voters, despite the party having relaunched itself less than a month ago, on May 17.

"Bersama's participation will allow the party to build its election machinery within a short period and assess its strengths and weaknesses in preparation for future elections.

"In line with this objective, Bersama's nationwide tour will begin in Johor at 8pm on Saturday (June 6) at the Danga Bay Convention Centre.

"The tour, dubbed the Kancil Tour, will focus on Bersama's 12-point agenda, with each state highlighting one agenda item," the statement read.

After Saturday, the Kancil Tour will head to Melaka on Sunday (June 7).

The culmination will be in Selangor on July 18.

"Dates and venues for each state will be updated from time to time.

"We thank our members and Malaysians who have been encouraging, and we hope to participate in the Johor elections with the help of the people to campaign and have a positive effect with a focus on the future," the statement read.

It added that more details on the tour and registration for attendance can be found on its website, bersama.org.
