JOHOR BARU: Johor has become the first state in the country to establish a pro-tem committee for Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama), signalling the party’s push to build grassroots machinery ahead of a possible snap state and general elections.
Johor Bersama joint interim committee chairman Abd Hamid Ali said the committee consists of former PKR state and division leaders, including a former state assemblyman.
“After taking into consideration the views of grassroots members, it is right for us to choose a new pathway in determining our political direction in Johor.
“We made the decision after we had lost confidence in PKR following the party’s election in 2025. It is unacceptable when PKR lied to members by manipulating its election result,” he added.
Abd Hamid said this at a press conference during the unveiling of Johor Bersama’s pro-tem committee, held near Bandar Baru Uda here on Saturday (May 23).
He added that the group has officially left PKR and joined Bersama, bringing with them almost 2,000 registered Johor PKR members.
“So far, Bersama has attracted 20,000 new members nationwide, including 2,800 members in Johor alone.
“Johor Bersama’s target is to drive up our membership, especially among the youth, in view of the upcoming Johor state elections and the general election,” he said.
Meanwhile, former Tiram assemblyman S. Gopalakrishnan, who is the joint interim committee deputy chairman, said they would be discussing the Johor state elections with Bersama leaders soon.
“We are looking at contesting all 56 state seats in the coming Johor state elections. We are identifying potential candidates, and they will all be locals.
“Johor Bersama will be discussing with our party central leadership as part of our preparation for the coming state elections, which might be held soon,” he added.
