Five killed, including toddler, in Serian crash

KUCHING: Five people, including a toddler, died when the car they were travelling in was involved in an accident at Jalan Baki Lama-Ensengei, Serian, on Wednesday (June 3).

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department personnel said they received a distress call at 8.41am and dispatched a team from the Serian fire station to the scene.

"The operations commander reported that the accident involved a car which had hit a water pipe," a spokesman said in a statement on Wednesday (June 3).

Bomba personnel extricated three women and a man from the vehicle while the baby, who was thrown out, was found nearby by members of the public.

The victims were identified as Mohammad Bostari Aidit, 30; Ajibah Ahmat, 47; Nur Farah Shahira Narudin, 26; Nur Ain Nasrin Narudin, 16; and Nur Assyfa Luthfya Narudin, two.

All five victims, believed to be family members, were pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

The bodies were subsequently handed over to the police for further action.
