SEREMBAN: Umno's former Ketereh MP Tan Sri Annuar Musa is now officially a PAS member.

The former communications and multimedia minister received his membership certificate from PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang at a Perikatan Nasional political event here on Saturday (June 10) night.

PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, who made the announcement, said apart from Annuar's application, PAS had also approved some 3,000 other applications.

Takiyuddin said Perikatan Nasional had also approved Annuar's membership.

Perikatan president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who was also present, handed over another membership certificate to Annuar, who is also NGO Muafakat Nasional chairman.

Annuar later said he decided to join PAS while performing his pilgrimage in Mecca.

"I have to make it clear that I did not meet Muhyiddin nor Abdul Hadi to join Perikatan and PAS.

"I was also not influenced by anyone. This is my decision," he said.

Annuar said he personally called Takiyuddin while he was in Mecca to state his intention to join PAS.

"I was an Umno division chief for 35 years, and served 28 years in its supreme council and have seen many things.

"Umno is no longer the party which I used to know," he said.

Annuar said he wanted to join PAS although some Umno members advised him against it.

"I will never return to Umno and I will reveal why I decided to join PAS, in stages.

"I spent 50 years in Umno and do not want to spend my remaining political years supporting a party which no longer commands the support of the people," he said.

Annuar said he also held Bersatu in high regard but chose PAS instead.
