PETALING JAYA: Police have confirmed receiving seven reports related to the burial management issue at the Ukay Perdana Muslim Cemetery in Hulu Kelang last Thursday (June 28).
Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Khairul Anuar Khalid said the reports were lodged following the circulation of the issue on social media.
"Following the spread of the matter, as of 5pm on Sunday, a total of seven police reports related to the issue have been received and investigations are ongoing," he said in a statement on Sunday (June 28).
He advised the public not to speculate on the matter and to allow police to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation involving all parties concerned.
"Anyone with information is urged to contact the Ampang police station chief at 03-4289 7222 to assist in the investigation," he said.
Earlier, it was reported that a relative of the deceased, whose case has been linked to the burial dispute, lodged a police report denying allegations that he claimed had tarnished his and his family's reputation.
The report was lodged at the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters following a statement issued by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) on Saturday (June 27).
In his report, the man alleged that claims stating the deceased's grandfather had insisted the burial be handled by Badan Kebajikan Salatulrahim (BKS) were defamatory and made with malicious intent.
The controversy began after a man claimed his child's body was left unattended for nearly an hour at the cemetery following a dispute over a RM1,400 burial management fee allegedly imposed by a funeral management organisation.
A mosque official later said the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding, explaining that the mosque had initially been responsible for managing the burial but BKS took over the arrangements at the last minute.
Meanwhile, JAIS denied allegations that the mosque had demanded RM1,400 from the family for the burial.
Its director, Datuk Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad, said the family had initially dealt directly with BKS, which was not affiliated with the mosque, before later agreeing for the mosque to take over the burial arrangements after obtaining the necessary burial application form.
