Dissolution of Parliament is the best way forward, says Umno

KUALA LUMPUR: The dissolution of Parliament is the best way forward as representatives of the parties that formed the coalition government were increasingly showing lack of solidarity with the Prime Minister in governing the country, says Umno.

“In fact, they have declared Umno and Barisan Nasional as the main enemy, which only further revealed the lack of trust and respect for Umno in leading the government,” Umno secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said in a brief statement after a special meeting here last night.

He also said their views were similar to that of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah.

“The mandate needs to be returned to the people so they can elect a government that can guarantee stability and prosperity to the country,” he added.

Ahmad said while the party would let the Election Commission to determine the date of the 15th General Election, he suggested that it could be held in mid-November.

In light of the GE15, he also announced that the Umno annual general meeting, which is scheduled to be held from Nov 23 to 26, has been postponed to later.

The meeting also agreed that the main theme for the GE15 manifesto would be “Stability and Prosperity”, which was used during the Melaka and Johor state elections.

Earlier yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had announced that, with the King’s consent, the Parliament was dissolved, paving the way for GE15.
