GE15: King calls for peaceful campaign period


PETALING JAYA: Uphold good values and avoid negative behaviour during the GE15 campaign period, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has told politicians.

Comptroller of the Royal Household for Istana Negara Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said the King also advised that politicians must avoid provoking or defaming others.

"These traits are also not only misguided but can also create chaos.

"In His Majesty's opinion, cooperation from all parties is very important in addition to respecting and upholding the country's judicial institutions as well as the system of Parliamentary democracy and constitutional monarchy by making political cooperation between parties more harmonious," Ahmad Fadil said in a statement on Thursday (Oct 20).

He also said that the King had earlier met Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department director Comm Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali on Wednesday (Oct 19) to receive a briefing on the preparations for GE15.

"In the session, His Majesty agreed to receive a briefing regarding police preparations and related agencies for the travel period of the GE15 and preparedness to face the possibility of flooding, involving a total of 99,133 police officers and members.

"His Majesty calls on candidates and party supporters to adopt a prudent approach throughout the campaigning period, starting from the nomination day on Nov 5," he added.

Earlier on Thursday, the Election Commission (EC) announced that the polling day for the GE15 (GE15) had been set for Nov 19, Nomination Day on Nov 5 and early voting on Nov 15.
