Use varsity facilities responsibly, UMS students urged

KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) students, especially hostel residents, have been urged to take care of campus facilities to protect the institution's image.

UMS board of directors chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan said the responsibility does not lie solely with the management but needs the cooperation and commitment of all residents.

This includes keeping the premises clean at all times to support good campus life and experiences, he said after a visit to one of the UMS's new college hostels here on Thursday (Nov 5).

Rahman said as the first residents of the hostel, the students living there should set an example of responsible behaviour when using its facilities, creating positive behaviour that can be passed on to the next batch of students.

"I also encourage students to continue voicing their views and constructive criticism on college facilities and hostels, but do it with respect to help administrators identify opportunities for improvement," he added

He acknowledged that some criticism was made off campus, but they have been resolved by UMS management.

"This shows that the university is ready to listen and respond," he said, adding that UMS would always put students' needs first.

He urged them to share accurate information of UMS's initiatives and efforts.

Rahman also launched the Food Bank Madani UMS @ KKN and presented RM19,000 for the programme.
