A WOMAN in India, who set fire to a house killing her husband and six of his family members, has been sentenced to eight life sentences, Makkal Osai reported.
Pandeeswari, 21, and her late husband Kannan, 25, had been separated due to serious misunderstandings since 2015, just after they got married.
After mediation efforts by town elders failed, Pandeeswari wanted to take revenge on her husband’s family.
Pandeeswari, her mother and brother went over to Kannan’s home one night, tied the door with steel wire and set fire to the house after dousing it with petrol.
The trio reportedly stayed to watch until the fire completely consumed the house.
The fire spread quickly, killing six of the victims at the scene.
Kannan’s seven-year-old nephew, who was rescued, later died at hospital.
Each perpetrator received one life sentence for each death and an additional life sentence for criminal conspiracy to commit murder.
