Johor polls: First time voters head to polls with enthusiasm

PETALING JAYA: First-time voters have been turning up to vote in the Johor state polls, with some like 52-year-old Collen Sigar coming to cast her ballot as she wants a better future for her state.

When met while leaving the polling centre in Pontian, the Pulai Sebatang voter said she hoped those like her would make use of the automatic voter registration and turn up for the polls.

In Pasir Gudang, first-time voters Lim Poh Yi, 23, and her sister Lim Jing Yi, 25 said that they hoped their votes would lead the state to a better future.

Both of them cast their votes at the SK Taman Rinting 1 polling centre here.

Similarly, University Malaya Young Leaders Association president Lim San Shien said that he hoped more people would turn up to vote in this election.

The 21-year-old law student cast his vote for the Perling seat at the SJKT Ladang Bukit Serampang polling centre.

Earlier, twins Fatin Ameyra Anastasha Narimusa (right) and Fatin Adreyna Anastasha said they dressed up for the occasion as they were voting for the first time.

The 22-year-old sisters both voted at the Sekolah Agama Taman Puteri Wangsa polling centre for the Puteri Wangsa state seat.

Aside from these, some young voters were excited to be able to vote due to Undi18, one of them being Nurfarisha Wahidah Mostapa @ Zakaria, who voted at the SK Taman Rinting 1 polling centre in Pasir Gudang.

The 19-year-old said that she was excited to be part of the Johor state election.

Another young voter spotted was Fatin Norfidiyana Rostam, 19, who cast their ballot at the SK 1 Larkin polling centre.

Some 2.6 million voters are eligible to cast their ballot, including about 175,000 first-time voters aged 18 to 20.
