Johor polls: BN has won over 40 seats, says Zahid

JOHOR BARU: Barisan Nasional has won more than 40 seats in the 16th Johor State Election based on unofficial results, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Barisan chairman said the result is better than the coalition previous victory in the 2022 state polls.

"This victory, led by caretaker Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, reflects his administration's efficient service.

"May this strong mandate be a wave to carry forward to the upcoming state elections in Negri Sembilan and Melaka and eventually the general election," he said at the Barisan war room in the Johor Umno office here on Saturday (July 11).

Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister said Barisan would continue working with the unity government in Putrajaya to ensure the smooth implementation of all Malaysia Plan projects.

Meanwhile, Onn Hafiz said the next state government would continue to take care of all Bangsa Johor regardless of race.

"To all those who won, forget the past and differences.

"Whether they support us or not, the state election is over –it is now time to work for the rakyat," said Onn Hafiz, who is also Johor Barisan chairman.

He also said the hardfought victory was due to the hard work of coalition's component parties and allies at all levels.

Barisan contested all 56 seats in the 2026 Johor polls.

In the previous state polls on March 12, 2022, Barisan won 40 out of of Johor's 56 seats. Pakatan Harapan won 12 seats, Perikatan Nasional won three seats and Muda took one.
