Four men armed with machetes and pump gun-like object rob jewellery shop in Kuantan

KUANTAN: Four suspects armed with machetes and a suspected pump gun-like object allegedly robbed a jewellery shop in Taman Pandan Damai here on Friday (Aug 21).

Kuantan District Police Chief ACP Ashari Abu Samah said initial investigations revealed that the incident is believed to have occurred at about 2 pm and involved four men wearing face shields who carried the weapons.

"The suspects are believed to have fled with an unspecified amount of jewellery before leaving the scene on two motorcycles. The initial estimated loss is said to be around RM500,000, and the exact amount is still in the process of verification," he said in a statement on Friday.

Ashari added that efforts to track down and arrest all the suspects are actively underway, and the case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code.

Members of the public with information related to the incident are urged to contact investigating officer Insp Che Nur Junaidah Che Jusuh at 014-882 8135 or the Kuantan District Police Headquarters (IPD) Operations Room at 09-565 2222.

Meanwhile, a witness to the incident who wished to be known as Maria, 39, said she saw one of the suspects standing outside the shop holding two weapons, including a long machete.

She said all the suspects were seen wearing dark-colored raincoats before hurriedly leaving the premises on two motorcycles without registration numbers.

"The atmosphere at the time was indeed quiet because it was Friday prayer time, and it happened so fast. We were also worried about our personal safety when one of the suspects held a weapon and was outside the premises," she said. - Bernama
