Two Malaysians detained in Thailand, illicit narcotics seized


NARATHIWAT: Two Malaysians were detained by Thai police in Sungai Kolok here on Thursday (Aug 20) night after authorities found 1,560 Epam (Nitrazepam) tablets believed to be in their possession.

Sungai Kolok Police Chief Col Thun Sirikhunt, when contacted by Bernama, said the two suspects, aged 24 and 30 and from Kelantan, were detained at about 10.30pm in front of a restaurant on Jalan Anukachart Usorn in Sungai Kolok town, following intelligence gathering and information from members of the public.

Thun said the drugs, classified as a Category 2 psychotropic substance, were packed in 39 blister packs, each containing 40 tablets, with a total estimated value of 10,608 baht (about RM1,310).

He said the two suspects are being investigated for possession of a Category 2 psychotropic substance for the purpose of unauthorised sale.

According to him, the offence carries a maximum prison sentence of one year or a fine of up to 20,000 baht (about RM2,468), or both. - Bernama
